what's behind drawer #4 ?

remember this post?  and how i was telling you about my dresser that needed completion? it's done! hip hip hooray!

i know. i get my mind set on something and i must . . . do it . . . . now.  poor hubby.

just kidding.

i think he's starting to like it in all honesty.  because it's done.  and he can rest.  and i can organize. and beautify. and purge. and dream up more projects. muwahahahah

for real though, let's get back to the project at hand. check.

i love it. and i loved it more when i saw it in the store. and even more when we finished it and put it in our room. it's taller than i thought. deeper than i thought. prettier than i thought. and much more functional than i thought. seriously.

it even has a little (4th) hidden drawer in it for misc items (i put a basket for bracelets and my undergarments next to that) leaving me with three more drawers to utilize! fabuloso people, fabuloso!

so, without further ado, here are some fun pics of the completed project:

:: see the secret drawer? i tried to pull it out so you could get a feel for where it's at. the little hole is the handle

:: looking from top down in each drawer

:: top of the dresser - my mom's jewelry box, a tree stand for necklaces, mirror and lamp

:: the finished products! a view from when you're laying on our bed

:: and just in case you were curious what our bed looks like

:: okay, one more shot of our cat, Patience, who we adore. don't-cha just want to snuggle her?!

in bed with us . . .

for the past couple of years (well, since we bought a house and have been working our arsses off and claiming more on our paycheck stubs), we usually get a nice little chunk back during tax time.

typically, it is all used for bill paying purposes. :: catch us up on medical bills. :: pay off some student loans (well, just mine since the hubs had a full ride for basketball) :: do some sort of medical/vet treatment for our dogs (i.e.: this is usually when our high maintenance Eve has an "addison's crisis" or tears her ACL or some other stunt), etc.

you get the point.

it's money that comes into our bank account . . .
. . . and we immediately say goodbye to.

*Insert enthused, smiling, energetic person saying something like this, "hellllloooooo money!"
*Insert whispering, bummed out, frown faced person forcing themselves to say, "goodbye money"

nah, it's all good. it seems to always come at the right time and has always been a great relief. and for that, we are extremely grateful.

anywho, the point of the story is this:  this year, besides paying for Eve's ACL surgery (yes, that happened approximately one month ago), we had actually kept up on all of our bills and were not behind!

*insert top of the lungs: WAHOO!!!!

so what did we do?
well, like any other american couple, it burned a hole in our pocket and we:
spent it!!!

oh yes we did.

BUT: before you go getting all judgmental on me now, it went to a good cause.

:: drum roll please . . . . .

a new BED!!!

for more reasons than one, we contemplated, wrote down positive and negatives, weighed out the fact that our current bed was over 12 years old, practically flattened to the ground, we were having back problems, neither of us sleeping well, couldn't take a nap during the day if you paid us, irritated with each other all of the time, and quite simply couldn't ever say to anyone: "we love our bed, let's go to sleep!"

*ya know those people, right? the ones who can look you straight in the eye on a business trip (or wherever) and say, "I can't wait to get home to my own bed, and crawl into it and sleep"  and they mean it? and you think to yourself, man they must have one of those pillow-top, custom made, plush and comfy, MTV crib worthy beds. and then you get a teeny weeny bit jealous?

yeah, we weren't those people saying that we loved our bed, we were the people envying the people saying they loved their MTV crib worthy bed.

well, now we are (those people loving our bed)!
and being envied. *insert wink*

we LOVE our bed.

so much so, that I thought I would share with you what life at the P's has been like this past weekend, in between work shifts and trying to accomplish a couple things around the house.

we had the bed delivered Friday, and ever since, have basically lived in it.

Yes, I am serious.

you try it! Go buy yourself a Sealy plush, posturepedic king size bed, cover it with your favorite blankets, introduce it to your favorite pupsters, and see if you ever leave.

told you so.

*and for the record, no that is not the place we bought it, or what we paid for it...i just couldn't find the exact one and cost of ours.

let's just say it was:

worth every single penny.

so back to my weekend at hand (besides working friday and saturday). we basically woke up, made ourselves some coffee/chai, retrieved our laptops/ipads/misc. devices from the living room, brushed our teeth, and snuggled right back into where we had slept the last 8 hours.

for real.

it was: Bliss.
BLISS I TELL YA!!!

we want to live here, eat here, sleep here, research here, _____insert what married couples do here, grow old together here, you name it. It's all gonna be done here.

in this amazing, and blessed, and uber awesome, grown up and kid friendly, dog loved, cat approved, squishy bed of ours.

we are over the moon.
and so
so
soooooo
grateful.

we are two very lucky little people.

it's the little stuff people.  Or what we call, the king size stuff people!

and here are some fun bed pictures to prove it:

now please excuse me while i crawl back under the blankets and sleep until i have to wake up for work. i just can't help myself.

i love our new bed!!!

it's just a little pric

and i'll take seven of them a day if it's gonna help make our dream a reality.

march 4th we'll see if we get to move forward with this IVF process we are starting.

until then, i get to stare at these, on my counter, with a little note I wrote to myself on our sharps container:

:: "for the babies."

now who can resist that?!

pillows pillows everywhere

some of my favorite things to add to a bedroom, a couch, a chair or pretty much any space for that matter are pillows.

i   love  pillows.

squishy ones, soft ones, colorful ones, white ones, striped ones, patterned ones, flowered ones, plain ones.

i love them all.

and these are a couple of my latest ones i added to our master bed.

now excuse me while i go launch myself onto my bed.

movin hubby in . . .

2012 is a big year for us. we are purging, simplifying, organizing and beautifying our whole house on a wee little budget.

one of the difficult spaces of our home has been our master bedroom. it's a smaller room, but must house a king size bed (my hubster is 6'7'' tall), along with whatever furniture we can fit, as our closet is one of those, "walk in" closets, but in all honesty, all you can really do is: walk. . . in.

and back out.

seriously.

anywho. because of this, the hubs has been storing all of his dress shirts and hanging clothes in our future nursery and has to visit a separate bedroom to find his clothes in the morning.  so, my solution was to measure our one and only wall that currently houses a much too large (& old) dresser with two individual pieces for alan and i to utilize.  ultimately, my goal was to bring alan's clothes from another bedroom into ours.

so, after a few months of day-dreaming, searching online, in magazines, on pinterest, and so on, I discovered our solution! alan's piece is a wardrobe from ikea and turned out fabulous!!

i love how it's coming together and cannot believe how great it looks on our one blank wall! half way there people! *now we just have to finish my dresser and put the decor up. wahoo!!

so for fun, here are a few pics of our new hangers, new space and new organized wardrobe for my main man.  and it's all in one room!

:: old space with old hangers (different room's closet) where the hub's clothes used to be housed:

:: decor & more pieces to organize his items with -- on top of the wardrobe

:: bottom part of the wardrobe to keep shoes, socks & clean boxers!

:: a nice glimpse of the new hangers (i'm in love), and the shirts all color coordinated

that's it for his stuff! now we just have to purge our "mini walk-in" closet, show you some pics of that, finish my dresser, add some decor, have our new bed delivered and we should be set.

*Oh yeah, i wouldn't mind having a little 'co-sleeper' for our future babies added to the room as well. that would be nice, wouldn't it?!

enjoy your weekend!

moments in my day

yesterday it started snowing while we were visiting this place:

and eating our favorite "treat" to restore our energy while we walk the entire store:

the snowflakes were (& no, I am not being dramatic -- ask the hubster!) like 3 & 4 inches big!
[look for the feather like white dots on in the picture frame)

but the further north we ventured (we live about an hour and 15 minutes away from IKEA), the less snow there was. :(

just more rain (& traffic)

but there is a happy ending to this story!  I woke up this morning and to my surprise!!!

yeah, looks like tea on the front porch is still a ways away. Oh well, I'll enjoy the beauty of the blanket.

pssst: do you remember when i posted about the fish tank we bought? well the little ones have arrived safely and seem to be enjoying their new home. now, lets play a little game of: where's waldo?!

spice that!

what's that you say? spices? organize frenzy? obsessed?

i think i've said it before.
and i'll say it again.

i love organizing.
and simplifying.
and beautifying.

so i started with my most used space in my small abode, and tore apart my kitchen.
bit by bit.
cupboard by cupboard.

i feel like it's gonna be a work in progress.

but wanted to share a little of my accomplishment.

the spice cabinet:

after searching for the past few months for the right spice containers to utilize, to simplify and to keep my herbs so "fresh and so clean clean"

. . . i found these.

ahh snap!

and they are awesome.

period.

it's official

i am obsessed with all things organization, decorating and beautifying my organizing.  i realized this when i combined my most utilized books for reference and realized i have a decent size stack.  it's helpful i must say though. i cannot always afford my first picks: potterybarn, restoration hardware, etc.  but i can get an idea i like from them, their books, their stores -- and create my own version.

it's much more realistic with our lifestyle.  and much more fun!

so i'm gonna keep collecting. keep looking. keep marking. and keep dreaming up ways to make my space more functional and beautiful.

cheers to stacks of books filled with ideas!

**do you have any favorite books you use when decorating?
